For Ms. April, her 40-Over-40 photo shoot served multiple purposes including catching up with an old friend.

“I wanted to be pampered for the day and made to feel beautiful,” she said. “It absolutely fulfilled my expectations. I was nervous going into the session, but Mrs. Lee made it such a comfortable experience. My favorite part was getting to visit with Mrs. Lee. She taught both of my daughters at Chapel Hill. I would tell people to just do it. You won’t regret it.”

April, a civil service employee,  has also never regretted living life by the Golden Rule:  “Treat others the way you want to be treated.”

That’s a rule she extends to her loving family, which includes her husband, two daughters, a son-in-law and three grandchildren.

As a proud mother and grandmother, April offers this advice to her younger self: “Slow down and soak it all in. They don’t stay little forever.”

April, who has traveling to Bora Bora someday at the top of her bucket list, has much simpler daily wants.

“If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life, it would be Mexican food.”

April admits her perceptions of what it means to be attractive have changed over the years.

“Yes, as we get older, we learn to see a person for their heart instead of their looks.”
