whitney breast cancer survivor

This is our girl Whitney. She is one of the youngest ladies I know to be diagnosed with breast cancer at only 22. Whitney was a single mother of a precious young boy, only two when she was diagnosed. I came to know Whitney several years ago when she was one of my sweet students in my previous teaching career, so I could not help but reach out to her.  She was my inspiration to start offering complimentary sessions for breast cancer survivors after pampering her with her first complimentary Glamour session. Two other local ladies helped me give Whitney a day of relaxation and pampering by gifting her professional hair and makeup and a complete manicure. (Thank you Madison and Sunny for helping make it a wonderful experience!)

Whitney is a strong, sweet, beautiful and caring individual with more strength than I can even imagine. Last spring she found out about her breast cancer and soon underwent a double mastectomy. Thank God, she is now in remission and this portrait is from her second session with me. Not wanting to leave anyone out but, special thanks to her mom, April and Jay, a very special young man who came into her life just before being diagnosed, and her dear friend Brandi. I know she is grateful and so am I.

Whitney’s Interview

In your own words Whitney, what is YOUR Story as a woman dealing with this diagnosis? How has it changed you?

“While going thru my cancer journey, I have had quite a few setbacks. Between 3 surgeries, 2 hospital stays, countless medications and dealing with anxiety and depression, I believe I came out a stronger woman. I always tried to not let cancer define me or limit me on anything I could do.

What is some advice you would like to share with other women dealing with the same diagnosis?

“Don’t give up!
It’s okay to have bad days, but don’t let those days define your attitude thru the whole journey.
It’s okay to shut off from the world, but not for too long.
It will get better, you can’t be a warrior without some battle scars.
You are beautiful, you are worthy and you are loved!!
