Meet Ms. Margaret, a 71-year-old retired teacher from Gilmer, Texas, now still residing in Mt. Gilmer, Texas.

Ms. Margaret’s decision to participate in the 40 Over 40 portrait experience stemmed from her belief that she never took good pictures and hoped a professional photographer could capture her differently. “I thought that maybe a professional photographer would do a better job,” she shared.

Her experience surpassed expectations, with the highlight being the interaction with the photographer. “We had fun, she listened to me,” she recalled.

In sharing her story, Ms. Margaret reflects on her journey from marriage to her high school sweetheart, overcoming challenges such as her former husband’s drinking problem. Divorcing him and finding happiness in her present marriage of over 25 years, Ms. Margaret attests that “Life is good.”

Family is everything to Ms. Margaret, with her husband Stephen, two children, and five cherished grandchildren holding the key to her heart. 

Despite her childhood shyness, Ms. Margaret is known for her friendly personality and joyful demeanor, never meeting a stranger.

Reflecting on her life, Ms. Margaret advises her younger self to cherish every moment with loved ones. Her greatest achievement was her forty years of teaching.

Looking ahead, Ms. Margaret’s ambitions include traveling and cherishing moments with family. While she acknowledges the perception of her generation as “old and crazy,” Ms. Margaret embraces life with enthusiasm and positivity.

Ms. Margaret found confidence not in her reflection but in her classroom, where she excelled as a teacher. Divorcing her first husband changed everything, erasing the doubts about her beauty caused by his hurtful words.

Ms. Margaret’s journey is a testament to resilience and self-discovery, reminding us that true beauty lies in confidence and self-acceptance.
