Introducing Ms. Ashley, a vibrant 46-year-old originally from Shreveport, LA, currently residing there. Ms. Ashley works as a caregiver and tutor, with a previous career path as a Respiratory Therapy Instructor.

Embracing Self-Image: A Journey with 40 Over 40

Ms. Ashley’s decision to participate in the 40 Over 40 portrait experience was inspired by what she describes as a “God wink.” She felt compelled to join as a means of boosting her self-image and self-esteem. “I knew I needed to start seeing myself like God and other people saw me,” she shared.

The session exceeded Ms. Ashley’s expectations, providing her with a sense of relaxation and joy she hadn’t anticipated. Despite her initial reservations, she found herself comfortable and laughing throughout the shoot. “The session proved to me that I actually do have a butt,” she joked. The experience has helped Ms. Ashley embrace her body and feel more comfortable in her own skin.

Overcoming Challenges: Resilience in the Face of Adversity

Ms. Ashley’s life has been deeply impacted by a brain injury she suffered five years ago. Formerly a workaholic, she was forced to re-evaluate her priorities and become a full-time caregiver for her mother, who was battling Alzheimer’s before she passed. Despite these challenges, Ashley remains resilient and passionate about teaching.

Her immediate family includes her two sons, one stationed in Japan as a Marine and the other studying engineering at LA Tech, as well as her 85-year-old father and her future daughter-in-law, whom she recently relocated from North Carolina.

Ms. Ashley’s greatest love is God, and she finds joy in hobbies like throwing knives. She is passionate about teaching and lives by the motto, “Always be aware of the beauty that surrounds you.”

Words of Wisdom and Myth Debunking

Reflecting on her journey, Ashley would advise her younger self to not worry about others’ opinions. She also seeks to debunk the myth that “40 is old,” emphasizing the importance of perception over numbers.

Ms. Ashley enjoyed her first session, so much, she booked another one soon after.  This time knowing what to expect and feeling even more comfortable in her skin than before.  It was an honor to get to photograph her again!  She also encouraged her friend Heather to book her own session.  What a treat to get to meet and photograph both ladies from Louisiana!
